This lyrical and visually absorbing portrait takes a look at seminal avant-garde composer/singer-songwriter/cellist and disco producer Arthur Russell from his humble beginnings to his immersion in New York’s underground art scene, and ultimately to his untimely death from AIDS in 1992. Russell prolifically created music that spans both pop and abstract art, from collaborations with Philip Glass and David Byrne) to dance floor classics. Russell's work, often thought to be ahead of its time, has become timeless. Fifteen years since his passing, his music is influencing a whole new generation of music lovers and musicians, including the post-punk movement and bands such as Hercules and Love Affair.
